Meeting of the working group on improving legislation in the area of ​​MARINET

On December 19 2025, the regular meeting of the MARINET working group on improving legislation and eliminating administrative barriers was held.

Meeting participants, representing the business community, universities, and government agencies, reviewed the results of the roadmap for improving legislation and eliminating administrative barriers in the MARINET area. They discussed pressing issues and challenges in this area, as well as specific proposals for regulatory changes to support the development of advanced MARINET technologies and companies.

The 2025 Solar Regatta engineering competition in Nizhny Novgorod

On August 30, a spectacular event took place on the waters of Nizhny Novgorod: the “Solar Regatta 2025” engineering competition. The project serves as a catalyst for technological breakthroughs, uniting science, education, and real-world production to create the eco-friendly transport of the future. Through the practical implementation of innovations, we are shaping a new generation of specialists capable of changing the energy landscape of Russia and the world.

The event brought together 11 school teams, who demonstrated unique developments—boats powered entirely by solar energy.

The competition included three main stages:
— Speed ​​race: testing the capabilities of solar panels and electric motors.

— Obstacle course: testing maneuverability and precision control.

— Endurance marathon: testing the reliability of structures and the efficiency of energy systems.

The participants demonstrated not only technical expertise but also a new approach to solving the problems of eco-mobility. Each boat was a unique project, created by the students themselves.
The Solar Regatta is becoming a traditional venue for:
— Developing young engineering talent
— Promoting environmentally friendly technologies
— Creating a community of alternative energy specialists

1st International High-level Forum on Smart and Autonomous Navigation Technology of Ships

On November 16-17, 2021 the 1st International High-level Forum on Smart and Autonomous Navigation Technology of Ships was organized by Russian Transport University, Harbin Engineering University, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Technology, Satakunta University of Applied Sciences with support of International Maritime Organization (IMO), Industry Association MARINET, Innovation & Cooperation in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (ICNAME) Alliance, China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry.

The aim of the Forum is to present current achievements in the implementation of autonomous navigation in different countries and to establish regular cooperation between universities of major maritime countries, which play significant role in coordination and development of such projects and researches in every country. The next MARINET meeting will be held within the framework of the “Archipelago 2121”, Educational Intensive conducted by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, University 20.35, NTI Platform, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Administration of the Novgorod Region.

The meeting will take place on July 27, 2021 from 12:00 to 17:00 in Veliky Novgorod, in the Maritime Center of Captain N. Varukhin (Velikaya St., 4 building 1)

The final stage of “UMNIK-MARINET” has been held from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad

On December 22 and 23, the final stage of the “UMNIK-MARINET” competition, organized by the Foundation for Support of Innovations (FSI) in cooperation with MARINET, was completed. Students, young scientists, entrepreneurs and employees of high-tech companies aged 18 to 30, took part in the competition. The winners of the “UMNIK-MARINET” competition will receive a grant of 500 thousand rubles.

Applications for research in priority areas of MARINET include new technologies and materials for shipbuilding, marine robotics, e-Navigation technology, underwater sensors and underwater exploration technologies, marine biotechnology, solutions for ensuring environmental safety, new technologies for training personnel for the maritime industry and others. Young researchers from all over the country took part in the competition: from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad, from Ufa to Taganrog. Traditionally, many applications were submitted by participants from the maritime capital of Russia, St. Petersburg. (more…)

Сhina-Russia symposium on hydroacoustics and information technologies – Nov, 28, 2020

A joint conference of Russian and Chinese scientists, engineers and companies dedicated to hydroacoustic and information technologies will be held on November 28 and 29 in a combined face-to-face and remote format.

The conference is organized by Harbin University of Engineering, Far Eastern Federal University and MARINET with the organizational support of the Department of Informatics of the Committee of the State Science Foundation of China.

The next MARINET meeting will be held in Moscow on August 5, 2020 in Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Science.  The meeting will take place from 10:00 till 13:00.

National stage of the online Olympiad “Solar Regatta” has been completed

On June 10, the online olympiad stage of “Solar Regatta” was been held.  18 teams of 5-11 grades schoolchildren from different cities of Russia took part in the Olympiad. The program of the Olympiad included three competition stages: a quiz, a brain-ring and a captain’s competition.

The quiz included 15 topics in the fields of renewable energy, maritime shipping, geography and even biology. In the “Brain-Ring” competition, the questions were formed by the teams themselves, so, the guys had the opportunity to demonstrate not only the ability to answer, but also to formulate questions.
