Autonomous and Remote Navigation Trial Project starts wide autonomous navigation

Autonomous and Remote Navigation Trial Project (ARNTP) is implemented as a part of the “MARINET” roadmap of the National Technology Initiative with support by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, with the involvement of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

The strategic aim of the project is the establishment of technical and legal conditions for the wide maritime autonomous surface ships (MASS) operation by shipping companies under the flag of Russian Federation from 2021 January and in any other country which will be ready to follow our approach.

National stage of the online Olympiad “Solar Regatta” has been completed

On June 10, the online olympiad stage of “Solar Regatta” was been held.  18 teams of 5-11 grades schoolchildren from different cities of Russia took part in the Olympiad. The program of the Olympiad included three competition stages: a quiz, a brain-ring and a captain’s competition.

The quiz included 15 topics in the fields of renewable energy, maritime shipping, geography and even biology. In the “Brain-Ring” competition, the questions were formed by the teams themselves, so, the guys had the opportunity to demonstrate not only the ability to answer, but also to formulate questions. MARINET supported new innovative projects at the meeting on April 25

At the MARINET Meeting on April 25 MARINET has approved new projects in digital navigation, innovative shipbuilding and ocean resources development technologies. Supported projects include Autonomous recreational small boats system IQBoat (Aurora Robotics Design Bureau), Compact individual rescue tool with a mechanism for extracting from the water (Energiya-Service LLC), Antifriction composite material based on a hybrid reinforcing material and polymeric thermosetting matrix of a new generation for friction units (Tribocomposite, PKF RADA), Engineering bottom seismic with for multi-wave seismic acoustic research in shallow water areas (Morgeocomplex LLC).

The IQBoat  project by Aurora Robotics is intended for creation of a system of several recreational vessels capable of autonomously sailing along specified routes and mooring remotely controlled from an onshore dispatching office. (more…)

Governmet will support computer simulation platform for unmanned navigation development

Government Commission for Modernization of the Economy and Innovative Development of Russia approved support of the project Technological platform to develop the unmanned navigation systems based on computer simulation in virtual environment. The total budget of the project is 6,75 million USD. The amount of state support will be 60% of the project budget.

Today the autonomous shipping technologies are the most promising trend in the development of the global maritime industry – both for the civilian fleet and for the Navy. Ships with a high degree of automation will allow to reduce the cost of the crew on board, which are 30-40% of the daily operating expenses of the vessel now – this is one of the key reserves for cost reduction by shipping companies. At the same time, these technologies will reduce the impact of the human factor, which is the main source of not only incidents in the field of shipping safety, but also economic losses associated with inefficient vessel management.  (more…)

Russia announced a series of projects in the field of unmanned navigation

In the framework of the international exhibition SMM in Hamburg,  MARINET hosted the international conference dedicated to the most promising technologies for the maritime industry, which was attended by companies and research centers from different countries of the world.

The conference program included panel discussions on digital navigation and unmanned vessels, as well as a pitch session on the marine robotics.

During the conference, Alexey Donskoy, Director of Engineering Center of Shipbuilding (ECS) told about the successful creation of unmanned boats by SPE AME and the conversion of the developed technologies for the civil shipbuilding. ECS in cooperation with AME plans to start in 2018 and 2019 a number of pilot projects to test autonomous and remote control vessels: sea/river bulk cargo ship, a small-tonnage tanker,  a ferry and an icebreaker.

Open platform to develop the unmanned navigation systems based on computer simulation in virtual environment

The project creates an open-code platform for the safe and efficient validation of unmanned navigation systems. The solution integrates a lot of different simulation models and is the first to offer a full-scale model of an autonomous ship. This model will include:

– ship navigation model;

– 3d ship & environment visualization model;

– ship autonomous control model (including the autonomous maneuvering and collision-prevention system); (more…)
